Best way to find local FM online

“Local FM” on the internet usually means a station that still sounds like a city: traffic, language, ads, and a legal ID — delivered as a stream, not as a pin on a fake coverage map. AngryBeat is built for that. This guide is the practical path: city, country, language, then a station page. We will not invent a frequency or a tower. If the encoder is down, try another local card instead of waiting on one brand.

Start with a place, not a genre mood

Genre tags are useful when you want jazz at 1 a.m. They are a poor way to reconstruct a hometown dial. Open Countries and pick the country. If we have a metro page (New York, Lagos, Mumbai, London, and others), use that — those pages rank stations that look like the city, then fall back to the country when the directory has few city tags.

The homepage can also suggest a coarse city from a network hint or a city you pick yourself. That hint is stored on this device for a week. We do not request GPS on load, and we do not store your coordinates on a server. “Trending in your city” is a convenience, not surveillance. You can clear the city and browse the world map instead.

Language is part of local

A local station is often a language as much as a city. Languages groups live streams by the directory’s language field, with light alias merging. Hindi FM in Delhi and Hindi blocks in Dubai are not the same local, but they are the same language bucket. Use both the country hub and the language hub when you care.

Station pages list language, state/city, tags, codec, and bitrate when known. Homepage links go out to the operator. Similar stations prefer the same country. That is the closest we get to “more like this FM” without scraping a programme guide we do not have.

What “FM online” is not

It is not a guarantee that you are hearing the analogue transmitter. Many “FM” brands also run a separate internet encoder; some webcasters never had a tower. AngryBeat does not know which. We refuse to print a megahertz value we were not given. If a listing says FM in the name, that is the station’s branding, not a measurement we took.

It is also not a download. You listen live. If the encoder fails, read why streams fail and try another local card. Health scoring hides repeat failures in this browser so the grid stays usable.

A simple order of operations

1. Country or city page. 2. Language hub if the presenter language matters. 3. Tap play, keep the sticky player. 4. Heart the ones that sound like home. 5. Share the station URL, not a mystery search. For film-music hours rather than local talk, use Bollywood radio. For the general player, use listen to live radio online. For why a hometown encoder will not start, use why streams fail instead of assuming the whole site is down.
