When a radio stream is geo-blocked

A geo-blocked radio stream is doing what the station asked. Their encoder, or a distributor in front of it, looks at where the connection comes from and refuses some countries. The AngryBeat page can still list the station, because a directory listing is not a promise that the audio will start at your kitchen table. This guide explains how to tell a block from a dead server, what you can listen to instead, and what we will not help you do.

A block is not the same as a broken player

If every station fails, look at your network first. Read the notes on phones if you are on Safari or Chrome. If other stations play and one famous name does not, you are probably looking at a block or a dead mount, not a broken AngryBeat. A block often fails fast. The player sits in an error or a silent state while a neighboring card starts immediately. A dead mount can look the same from the outside. You do not need to know which of the two it is in order to stop refreshing.

Some stations publish a website you can open and a stream URL that only works inside their country. The website loading does not prove the stream is open. AngryBeat plays the stream URL, not a recording of their homepage. Chinese radio is one hub where this split is common: the listing exists, and the encoder may still refuse a listener overseas. Russia has the same pattern for some brands. We leave the card in the directory when the public listing is real, and we do not pretend the audio will start everywhere.

What AngryBeat will not do

We do not offer a proxy, a smart DNS, or a VPN, and this page is not a tutorial for dodging a block. If a station restricts its stream, that restriction belongs to them. Using some other tool to appear in another country is your decision and your responsibility, outside this site. We will not rank 'working mirrors', and we will not label a workaround as a feature. Circumvention is not part of AngryBeat.

We also do not re-host the show so that the block no longer matters. AngryBeat does not host the audio. If the station says no, we have no second copy to hand you. Reporting the card as broken will not remove a lawful region limit. Report a card when the name, country, or language is wrong, or when a stream that should be public has been dead for everyone, including people in the home country.

Listen to a station that is actually open

Pick a neighbor that is not the blocked brand. On a country page, try the next card. On a language page, try another country that broadcasts in that language. United Kingdom radio and other public services are not a substitute for a specific blocked network, and we will not claim they are the same schedule. They are simply stations that may start where you are. Station of the day is one worldwide pick. It is not chosen because it defeats geo-blocks. It is one live station for the UTC day. If it fails, choose another card. Do not assume the whole site is region-locked.

Your own VPN, if you already turned one on for unrelated reasons, can create a block that the station did not intend for your real country. Turn it off and retry the same card before you decide the station hates your region. Private DNS and some mobile 'secure network' toggles do a similar thing. The test is simple: one change, then Play. Why streams fail covers outages that are not geographic at all, so you do not treat every silence as a border.

How listings stay honest

The directory we cache does not know your street address, and neither do we. A coarse country hint may be used for 'near you' on the homepage. That hint is not a key that unlocks a foreign encoder. Health scoring in this browser hides stations that keep failing for you, which is useful when a block is permanent on your network. It does not punish the station for listeners elsewhere. Clear site data if you want that local memory gone.

If you operate a station and the listing should be removed, or the stream URL changed, write to the contact on the terms page. Include the station name and the URL. We can edit a listing. We cannot make a CDN in another country accept a listener the station has excluded. For listening, stay with cards that start. That is the whole product: live radio that is actually on, free, without an account.
